Friendly Friday – Hot Dog Story
Street Food Vendor 2019©Isadora DeLaVega
Street food vendors have become a popular place to grab on-the-go food now-a-days.
They weren’t popular years ago except for the local ice cream truck that would ring his bell everyday to alert kids of the yumminess he was bringing.
When my father retired from his 3 jobs – yes, he had 3 jobs the entire time I was growing up – he was having a difficult time of doing nothing.
He’d been a cook in the army. In between working, he liked to cook up many hardy dishes for us. It seemed like a natural progression for him to do something with cooking.
He purchased a food cart and went to all the school baseball games to sell his Nathan’s Hot Dogs with homemade chili, homemade onions and homemade
sauerkraut. He was able to put my youngest sister through medical school with all of his earnings.
This painting of a food vendor reminded me of his food cart.
