September #One Four Challenge – Week 1 – Gardenia

White Gardenia               2015©photography by Isadora DeLaVega

My DSLR was home and I was on vacation.
This is a new camera I purchased so I wouldn’t miss any great photos.

FujiFilm FinePix Camera S4250WM
ISO 64 4mm f/3.1 1/100

*****
I just started using it. I’m not that familiar with it yet.
I altered the background to eliminate what I felt looked busy.
I changed it to black and white.
I added some highlight for the gardenia to pop.

Enjoy …. Isadora

  4. Lovely image. I am drawn to black and white treatments of flowers like this, which seem almost more delicate than the original color. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

    • I agree with you on adding a little more contrast on the flower. Before posting, I tried to add some more but the raindrops were being affected – they disappeared. Any hints ..??? I would love the feedback. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment, Ben. It’s nice to meet you.

      • When you added the contrast the raindrop disappeared because the contrast flattered the detail in the rain drop. It is more detail than contrast which is needed. I am not sure what editing software you use, my approach would be either increase contrast and then pull back highlights selectively and minor sharpening (very minor) or increase clarity and reduce highlights selectively. In both cases the adjustment would be quite subtle.
