Music Passion – Duets

Al & Isa - head shot limosine

For the month of July the music challenge from Dolly is ‘DUETS’ . This song is one that was popular during 1965. It has a great deal of significance for me as I was married in that year. August to be exact. The words of the song were our mantra since my parents and his were against it. This year we’ll be celebrating our 49th anniversary. Sometimes, you just have to follow your heart despite adversities.

Original Version – I Got You Babe – Sonny and Cher Top of the Pops 1965

Sonny and Cher, the Duo

Cher and Bono met in 1963. Bono, some years older than Cher and possessed of certain show business savvy, impressed the naive teenager. Bono helped her to secure work as a backup singer for the Ronettes and other artists, and eventually conceived of the notion that the two of them should form a duo. The couple originally billed themselves as Caesar and Cleo, but that image failed, as did their first record. Eventually they came up with the Sonny and Cher act, which evoked a cute hippie persona. The couple married legally in 1964, an event which undoubtedly cemented their image as Sonny and Cher.

Soon the couple was a hit. Their first number one record, “I Got You Babe,” written by Bono, was released in 1965. Sonny and Cher lasted through six albums, two movies, and a musical variety television show, before they divorced, at which point the act went by the wayside along with the marriage. The couple had one child, a daughter named Chastity, who was born on March 4, 1969. Chastity Bono continued to live her mother, but maintained a very close relationship with her father as well. ©answers.com read more here

I Got You Babe Lyrics

HER: They say we’re young and we don’t know
We won’t find out until we grow

HIM: Well I don’t know if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you

HIM: Babe

BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe

HER: They say our love won’t pay the rent
Before it’s earned, our money’s all been spent

HIM:
I guess that’s so, we don’t have a pot
But at least I’m sure of all the things we got

HIM: Babe

BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe

HIM: I got flowers in the spring I got you to wear my ring

HER: And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
So let them say your hair’s too long
‘Cause I don’t care, with you I can’t go wrong

HIM: Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb

HIM: Babe

BOTH: I got you babe I got you babe

HIM: I got you to hold my hand

HER: I got you to understand

HIM: I got you to walk with me

HER: I got you to talk with me

HIM: I got you to kiss goodnight

HER: I got you to hold me tight

HIM: I got you, I won’t let go

HER: I got you to love me so

BOTH: I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe
I got you babe

    • I did the same thing, Gilly. I was good at it. I could draw them on with the same amount of space
in between each one. This photo has the dow eye. Do you remember making that upside down
comma on the edge of the eye? Trends … lol
BTW … it took 2 hours to get my hair that straight for the wedding day and 20 minutes for it to frizz up.
I didn’t appreciate when that happened. It’s a good thing my mother was a hair stylist.
Thanks for popping in and listening to great music of the past. 😘

    • Cher wore the most beautiful gowns as the years went on.
Those hippy days were full of fun and excitement. I was never a hippy but enjoyed watching
everyone who was. They seemed to be so free.
It’s a shame Sonny died so young. I wonder if he would have become big in politics
as he seemed to be venturing into more. One never knows where the road is going to lead us.
Hey … thanks, Jo, for the lovely compliment. I felt like a princess that day. Now, my hubby makes
me feel like a queen everyday. 😘
