Travel Theme – Fragrant
‘Lady of the Night’ – a prolific orchid that produces a jasmine–like fragrance only at night.
I look forward to the blooms twice a year. Fortunately, it produces its’ 2nd bloom of flowers during November and December which lends itself to a fragrant outdoor setting on my lanai. There are 7 potted plants out on the lanai strategically place for when someone passes or sitting near one.
“Plants that wake while others sleep, timid jasmine buds that keep their fragrance to themselves all day, but when the sunlight dies away let the delicious secret out to every breeze that roams about”.
Among the pale white heart shaped flowers of ‘Lady of the Night’ are these fuchsia pink orchids. No fragrance but their beauty screams a silent fragrance.
“Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it”. author – Mark Twain

The Lady of the Night is graceful, I’d enjoy jasmine-like fragrance 🙂 I always think orchids have silent fragrance. Beautiful post, Isadora.

Ah, they are so beautiful. Flowers blossoming and giving out a scent at night are extraordinary. Like the evening primrose. We have one in the balcony and in the summer the scent is entoxicating! 🙂

I think you’ve hit upon the perfect word to describe them – intoxicating.
They are sweet and sultry in their scent. I enjoy sitting and smelling them.
I will have to look into getting a primrose. I can then call my garden a fragrance garden.
Thanks … xoxo

Your Lady of the Night is such a bright and spangly thing, with its little white bodhi leaf/heart-shaped flowers. I’ve never seen it, Isadore and am so happy to meet yours. 🙂

My 1st plant was a gift from a friend who stayed with us for a weekend. They were orchids growers who sold their unusual orchids at a farmer’s market near us.
This Lady of the Night has grown and been multiplied many time by me for friends who are
astonished by the fragrance. I gift you a virtual cutting for your garden. xoxo
