Sunday Post – Sentimental Value

Dinner Table - the Gang (2)Family Dinner

We live in a different world now. Families live where they can best find jobs or where they enjoy the lifestyle. For many years, Florida has been known as the retirement state. Young people have been hesitant to move to a place where they would be earning less or missing out youth oriented activities. Recently, that has begun to change.

For years, my grandkids have been scattered in different states. Their parents, understandably so, have wanted to spend holidays at home in order to create their own traditions and memories. To compensate for the lack of their companionship during the Christmas holidays, I started a tradition of placing a small Christmas tree on my front porch with ornaments representing each of the grandchildren. My hope was for them to, one day, decorate the tree themselves. This year four of my eight grandkids, who live within driving distance from me, decorated the grandchildren’s tree. It was a festive day and evening for all as you can see by the smiles on their faces. These are of great sentimental value to me.

  3. What a wonderful tradition you began years ago…and I’m so happy for you that now you have several grandchildren who live within driving distance. We are on the same page as to what is important…the special people in our lives! Beautiful post.:)

    • Thanks, Jake. I’m glad it fit in with the challenge. I appreciate the kind words about them.
I’m still floating from getting my post in on time. I really wanted to do that and I finally accomplished it. Let’s hope I can do it again.
      Toodles …
